We may have finished picking our Imperial Mandarins for this season, but our Murcott Mandarins are only just getting started! In our latest Tree to Table vlog, Red Rich Fruits MD Matt & National Farming Operations Manager Tim give us the lowdown on preparations for Murcott Mandarin season 2018.
Red Rich Fruits (NSW) Managing Director Matt Palise and National Farming Manager Tim Teague talk Murcott Mandarin season 2018.
Murcott Mandarin Season 2018: what we’re looking for in the fruit
With less than 4 weeks until Murcott Mandarin harvest commences at our citrus orchards in Gayndah, ‘fruit set’ – where the tree flowers turn into fruit – has been good. We’ve got 70 – 80% fruit on the trees, and ongoing pest management programs have been successful resulting in clean fruit across the orchard.
At this stage we’re monitoring colour and maturity, with warm days and cold nights bringing out some excellent colour in the fruit. Harvest is expected to begin any time from the last week of June. The majority of the crop will be exported to China, but there will still be plenty of beautiful Murcotts for Australian consumers to enjoy!
